The HARTING Technology Group sees customer focus as the clear key to success.

All business areas within the company are directed towards increasing value creation for customers. Automation IT is vital here for delivering efficient business processes based on integrated infrastructures. To achieve this, HARTING has used the standard Ethernet system to set up a convergent communications platform for all business applications. Now it is important to continue extending this platform.

Against this background, HARTING will be presenting the following at Hannover Messe 2011:

• intelligent data stream management with HARTING smart Power Networks

• bi-directional real-world communication via key RFID technology

The Hannover Messe is the most important technology event in the world, and the 2011 event will once again feature as one of the most important trade fairs on the HARTING Technology Group calendar for 2011. The family owned and managed business which is based in Espelkamp has had a stand at the event since it started over 60 years ago, and has regularly impressed professional visitors with its innovations. The motto for this year’s fair is “smart efficiency”, which is also reflected in our product innovations. HARTING will be presenting an Automation IT solution in the shape of its Smart Network Infrastructure offering. Automation IT embodies the concept of more efficient processes that can be achieved through the consistent implementation of our Smart Network Infrastructure.

Philip Harting, Senior Vice President Connectivity & Networks at HARTING: “HARTING is taking Automation IT to the next levels. Data networks, which we have successfully introduced as Automation IT Communication, will be developed into an intelligent data and power infrastructure. Our RFID solutions also deliver enhanced integration of real-world products in all applications. This makes HARTING Automation IT a communications platform not just for applications, but for the real world, too.”

Dr. Michael Groß, Managing Director, ICPN/RFID at HARTING:
HARTING smart Power Networks delivers intelligent energy distribution
“HARTING smart Power Networks is an intelligent energy network that delivers intelligent energy distribution via active network components. Energy distribution becomes a managed network. This delivers benefits in terms of planning, commissioning and facility availability, and is the key to increasing energy efficiency. HARTING smart Power Networks are the future smart grids of industry.”

RFID – the key technology for efficient processes
“The seamless integration of real-world products with IT is a decisive factor in terms of efficient value creation processes. HARTING has created the technological preconditions – with the RFID tag, active infrastructure components, or readers, and the software solutions needed for integration into a smart infrastructure – so that the real-world product for manufacture can be integrated more robustly into the IT”, says Dr. Michael Groß.

Dr.-Ing. E.h. Dietmar Harting, President/Partner: “Our aim is to become a global company – that is one basis of our vision, which we have consistently pursued over the past year. We have opened a new distribution company in Dubai; we are planning to locate our 11th production site in Chennai, India. Throughout the world, customer proximity is one of the most decisive factors in terms of competition.” Dr.-Ing. E.h. Dietmar Harting goes on to explain: “Our localization strategy in China involves: extending R&D, purchasing and local production skills capacity. We are also setting up a new logistics and supply system out there. This puts us in the best global position for generating the right solutions for local requirements throughout the world.”

HARTING insists on excellence

At the HARTING Technology Group, excellence means continuously striving for improvement – in all areas. The success of such intense effort is reflected in the many awards that the company has received over the current business year. With its Han-Yellock® connector, HARTING has taken an entirely new design route and integrated new functionalities. HARTING won the renowned iF product design award 2011 for its extraordinary design. Han-Yellock® also caused an international sensation. The US Hearst Electronic Products Magazine chose the connector as one of its Products of the year. And another Technology Group product was honored by a US magazine. The RFID tag, which HARTING developed in association with Lufthansa Technik Logistik, Lufthansa Systems and the Center for Intelligent Objects at the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits for the Aviation Industry, was named as one of the best products in the Golden Mousetrap competition in Design News magazine.

Excellent products are key building blocks. The same holds true for outstanding processes, and the right mix is required in order to succeed. HARTING has seen success here too. The Electronics business area emerged as a winner in the toughest benchmark competition of the manufacturing industry in Germany. HARTING came out on top in the Outstanding Mass Production category of the Factory of the Year/GEO 2010 competition.

The company received another award acknowledging its efforts to provide staff with attractive long-term positions: HARTING ranks as one of the best employers in Germany. The Great Place to Work Institute® in Berlin honored the Technology Group for its special qualities and attractiveness as an employer. A major component of the competition was a detailed anonymous employee survey on central workplace issues such as leadership, collaboration, professional development, pay and workplace satisfaction. An assessment was also made of the quality of Human Resources procedures and programs. HARTING employees gave Fairness and Respect particularly good grades; they especially value the fact that they are treated fairly and equally. Working conditions, specifically flexibility, facilities and safety, also achieved particularly good grades. Overall, the employee survey shows that the HARTING Technology Group is a company with which its employees identify to an above average degree.
